Soundsy FAQ

When does a new Soundsy word come out?

At midnight in your own time zone, like Wordle. Everyone gets the same word for the same date.

How is my streak counted?

Your streak grows each day you solve that day’s puzzle. Giving up or skipping a day resets it. Past puzzles never count toward your streak.

I travelled across time zones. Will that break my streak?

No. Puzzles are tied to calendar dates, so playing each date once keeps your streak going wherever you are.

Do I need an account?

No. Soundsy works without signing in; your stats are saved on this device. Accounts that sync across devices are coming later.

Can I play old puzzles?

Yes. Open Past puzzles to play any earlier day. They count toward your stats but not your streak.

Why is a word that means the same thing ranked so low?

Soundsy only cares about sound. Meaning is ignored completely, so synonyms are usually ice cold.

What counts as sounding alike?

We compare the speech sounds of each word. Matching endings and stressed vowels count extra, and similar sounds (like T and D) count as close.

Do homophones count?

Yes. A word that sounds exactly like the answer (two and too) solves the puzzle.

Why doesn’t Soundsy know my word?

We only rank words with a known pronunciation in our dictionary of about 45,000 common words. Try a more common spelling.

When is the answer published?

Never while the puzzle is live anywhere on Earth. A day’s answer appears on its archive page the next day at 12:00 UTC.
