How to play Soundsy
Soundsy is a daily word game: find the secret word by guessing words that sound like it. There is one secret word each day, the same for everyone. Every guess gets a rank against every other word we know: the closer it sounds, the smaller the number, and #1 is the answer.
Meaning doesn’t matter
Only sound counts. If the answer is orange, then fruit is ice cold (rank 8,412), range is warmer (rank 58), porridge is hot (rank 6) and orange is rank 1.
How “sounds like” is measured
We break every word into its speech sounds (orange is OR·INJ) and line them up against the answer’s. Similar sounds (like P and B) cost less than very different ones. Endings and stressed vowels count extra, because that’s what makes rhymes stick. Then we rank your word against all the words we know.
Warmer, colder and clues
After each guess you see whether you got warmer or colder than your previous guess, and a short clue about which part of the sound was close, such as “That ending is close.” Words that sound identical to the answer (homophones, like two and too) count as solving it.
Hints, giving up and the daily reset
Guesses are unlimited, and you get a free clue after 10, 20 and 30 of them. Stuck? The Hint button gives up to five hints (each shows a word that sounds closer than your best so far) and Give up reveals the answer and ends your streak. A new word arrives at midnight in your time zone.

When you finish you get a spoiler-free result to paste into a group chat: one square per guess, from 🟦 cold to 🟧 hot.
